As a long time fan of Kirby, I had wanted to incorporate him into my work somehow, and at the time with the new release of the new game 'Kirby And The Forgotten Land' I thought it was the perfect time. I wanted to learn how to model my own creations as this would help me become a thriving 3D designer, but I needed a simple creature/object to start out on, which is when I thought about making Kirby.
With my mind set on what I had to do, I opened up Zbrush for the first time and began to figure out how it worked. A few hours later (and a couple youtube tutorials) I had a pretty good looking Kirby model, hand crafted and sculpted by myself, and the funny thing is that it actually turned out really good on my first attempt!
From there, to fit with the newest game, I created a sort of overgrown and abandoned city street with some buildings, debris, and more to really mimic the vibe the game was going for. Overall, I am very happy with out the renders turned out and I love my pink little dude.
I started in Zbrush with making the model of Kirby first as that was the most important part. Once Kirby was done, I hopped into Cinema 4D to create the scene, making the ground, buildings, and the rest to make everything come alive. Then, it was just a matter of texturing, lighting, and putting any other finishing touches onto the scenes to make everything flow.
I also got a little ahead of myself and did a second model or Kirby where he is sucking in air in a big tornado which makes no sense if you haven't played the games.
This project was created using Cinema 4d, Redshift, and Zbrush for all the 3D work. I also used Photoshop to edit the renders after.
