Sportsnet 3D Intro

Description

My Sportsnet intro video was an assignment for my Motion Design class, whose goal was to make an intro similar to the productions you would actually see on TV whether at home or out with friends.

The design had to have various components including a large stadium with a jumbotron, video board, Sportsnet signs around the stadium, and 2 team banners behind large pistons which the team logos emerge from. Then, I had to take many different camera angles and render the whole thing out into one nice, clean, visually appealing video.

As for the music I went with the main theme for Crash Nitro Racing as it has a big band sound and personally, I think it fits really well with the visuals and pace of the intro. It catches your attention and promotes excitement. All of the assets/models for this project were created by me.

The Plan

My plan for the assignment was to first start with the stadium which is the focal point (foundation) since all other assets go inside of it. The next step was to work on the pistons and team logos, along with the other 3D objects. Then, I put dynamics on any objects that move such as the banners waving in the wind, or the Sportsnet logo circling the stadium. Finally, after the objects were made I keyframed out the camera angles and started rendering which took roughly 21 hours on my computer.

After it was rendered, I took it into After Effects to synchronize the camera angles with the music, did some colour correction and time remapped some parts to make everything work perfectly.

Software

The software I used for this assignment was primarily Cinema 4D, as all of the 3D work was done on the program. I then took my renders from Cinema 4D and used Adobe After Effects and a little bit of Adobe Premiere do the colour correction and adding sound. Adobe Illustrator was also used to draw out the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys logos.
